When you think of something you want to get done or achieve how many times to do tell yourself you ‘should’ do x, y, z? Or tell your partner/children they ‘should’ do x, y, z? If you think of the things you would like to achieve in your life or perhaps starting to think about New Year’s resolutions what comes to mind? ‘I should loose some weight’, ‘I should stop smoking’, ‘I should decorate the bedroom’. The thing is, no-one likes being told what to do, not even by yourself!!
Take a moment to write down the things you would like to achieve or think you should do:
‘I should ….’
‘I should….’
Now look at the list, how motivated do you feel to achieve it?
What happens if you replace ‘I should’ with ‘I could’? Try it. Read them using ‘I could’ instead. How motivated do you feel now? My guess more than before.
OK, now do the same but change ‘I could’ with ‘I choose to’. You may be surprised how much more motivated you begin to feel reading them using ‘I choose to’.
So, what do you choose to do to increase your happiness and wellbeing this week?
