The art of therapy

A colleague of mine in the world of Cognitive Hypnotherapy had a short piece published in the Guardian here.  I like it’s honesty and also highlights how we can see 3 clients in one day, all saying they have the same problem e.g. ‘anxiety’ however they are 3 completely different session.  This is because we are all unique, we all experience the world in our unique way.   Therefore one thing the works for one client my not work for someone else.  This is why we take time to understand how the client is experiencing their situation, what success looks like to them, how it would feel, what they would do.  Everything we do in working with a client is unique to them which makes no two sessions the same.  It moves therapy from a science to being an art as well.  I never thought of myself as an artist!
