This study shows how teenagers violence can come from modelling violent parents/relatives or other adult role models. Research show this is also the case for other behaviours such as phobia of spiders, snakes, fear of heights etc. I can see now my son who was pretty much fearless is now getting increasingly scared of spiders and heights, funny how my wife has those phobias!
Most phobias I help clients with at my Cornwall hypnotherapy practice tend to originate from seeing others react in fear. In our brain we have what is called mirror-neurons which means we get the same experience of others when we see them in situations – we mirror their experience. For example if you see someone shut their fingers in a door, you wince at the thought, in a small way you are experiencing what they are, that’s your mirror-neurons firing off.
So, what phobias or fears do you think you have that you may have learnt from your parents? Contact me if you want to be free from them!
