10 Tips to Find The Life Coach Within You

Many people see a life coach to get some guidance and clarity on a situation or direction in life. One of the things I share with my life coaching clients is that you don’t need to go to India to find inner peace and wisdom, it is inside you!  We all have a life coach within us. However we sometimes need to learn how to tune in to it as it can be drowned out by our thinking and busyness.

These are some of the things I use when helping people who come to see me as a life coach. It’s a real privilege in helping people become more of who they naturally are and achieve the things they have always dreamed of doing. I was stuck in a job that was convenient but ‘not me’ and I had no idea what I really wanted to do. I got myself a life coach and now I do what I love, I get paid for being ‘me’.

Here are ten things I have learnt that help me find my inner life coach:

  1. Listen to your heart more than your head.  When making a decision put your hand on your head as you think about it and listen to your thinking on the subject.  Then do the same with your hand on your heart and listen to your heart.  Then repeat with your hand on your stomach, listen to your stomach.
  2. Insights come from a quiet mind.  You cannot think yourself to insights.  You need to give them space for them to appear.
  3. When you do you have your best ideas?  In the shower?  On holiday?  Shaving?  Probably when you are thinking the least.
  4. Let your thoughts go, like watching a snow globe settle.  Your thoughts are like a brass band playing drowning out the soft flute of your inner life coach and wisdom.
  5. When listening to someone listen without thoughts, solutions, judgements, how you might help them.  Just be listening, deep listening for understanding and insight.
  6. Write down what you think about a particular subject but keep the pen moving for at least 10 minutes. The golden rule is don’t stop.  If you cannot think of what to write write down ‘I don’t know what to write’.  You may be surprised as to what come out.
  7. Draw a picture about a subject with your non dominant hand.  Use coloured felt tips.  Get in touch with your inner child and you’ll find your true self from the life coach inside you and clarity of mind.
  8. Write about a subject with your non dominant hand, keep the pen moving.
  9. Learn to quieten your mind by focussing on your breathing for a few minutes.
  10. If you want an answer to something tell your inner wisdom you would like to know the answer to x then forget about it.  Go for a walk.  Let the insight come in it’s own time and way.  All you need to do is give it space.

Have fun finding the life coach in you!
