Talk with the hand not to the hand!

Hand gesturesScientists at the University of Chicago have identified that using hand gestures can help your memory recall, helps you think and learn. Not every kind of hand gesture is useful. A gesture has to be meaningful to the topic at hand, so to speak. Otherwise it’s just hand-waving. In new, yet-to-be-published research, they found that maths students learned more when they were taught to use correct, relevant gestures to describe their lessons than students who used only “partially correct” gestures, who in turn learned more than children who gestured not at all.  I do find it facinating how the mind/body connection works and how you can utilise it in so many ways.  Did you know you can increase your memory recall (e.g spelling) and learning with very simple and effective means such as where your eyes look as you think of the answer?  If you want to know more details of how you may benefit from this contact me at my West London practise.
