I am probably showing my age when that TV theme tune comes in to mind when I think of happiness. There was an interesting article on happiness sin the Times the other day, you can see it online here (before they start charging for the on-line version! :( ). There is plenty of advice around about how to live if you want to be happy. The New Economics Foundation, for example, prescribes the spiritual equivalent of the five fruits and vegetables a day required for peak physical health. All you need to remember is “Great”:
Giving
Relating to other people
Exercising the body
Attending to the world around
Teaching yourself something fresh.
Each of these has been demonstrated to be true through positive psychology (I recommend Authentic Happiness on the subject). Perhaps you can see areas of your life where you can begin see ways you can increase the ways you can be ‘Great’er and notice the difference in how you feel. In the UK the Movement of Happiness is being set up to launch later in the year, can you imagine a world where we all feel happier – wouldn’t that be great! To your increased happiness!
